2009 - 4th of July

The 4th of July falls on a Saturday this year. We plan on having a very similar celebration as in previous years: lots to eat, lots of entertainment, lots of goodies for the kids, games, prizes, bounce houses and the famous “Spaceball”. There has been some requests made by several adults asking for more “grown up” activities this year. If you have any ideas or suggestions, please pass them along, we’ll see what we can do.

Here’s the plan so far: We will have lots of different musical acts throughout the night, headed up by Steve Welling and Bert Workman. There will be all-you-can-eat hot dogs, popcorn, cotton candy and shaved ice. The rest of the food will be provided by you as in years past, bring a dish to share (salads, fruit bowls, casseroles, desserts, etc). BBQ’s will be provided for you to cook your own meat if you don’t want the hot dogs (Justin Greening is donating SOME hamburgers as well…1st come 1st served while they last). We’ll have 3 inflatables for the “kids” (same as last year: bungee basketball; king of the hill; kids bounce house). We also have the “spaceball” provided by Matt Morgan again this year! Grown-up games (”potato” launcher, soap-box derby, etc) headed up by Paul Stay. Face painting, water balloons, helium balloons, rocket launching, fish pond, pie eating contest, glow necklaces. A kids bike parade (kids to decorate their bikes as festive as possible) headed up by Kyle Rootsaert. A fireworks show headed up by Patrick Ward.

We understand that the slower economy has hurt several people in the neighborhood, but we still want to bring everyone together and celebrate the birth of this great nation. And even though it costs money to provide all of this to everyone, we will do our best to keep costs down while still providing tons of fun for everyone. We welcome EVERYONE in the neighborhood to come to the party, regardless of circumstance. We are asking for a donation of $5 per person to help pay for the party this year, (we can work something out if the financial cost is too much for you this year). Family and friends are welcome too…bring ‘em all! We will be providing wrist bands this year. Your donation gets you a wristband, your wristband gets you onto the inflatables, and all the concessions, hotdogs and fireworks.

Like last year, we need help pulling off this big neighborhood party. If you can help in ANY way this year, please make a comment stating what you’d like to help with.

Be sure to join the facebook group “AF cul-de-sac of fire”.

We look forward to seeing you at the party!
